When a family member, friend or colleague is diagnosed with a heart problem, you want to let them know you care. That's why we created the Healthy Heart Basket (TM).

    Healthy Heart Basket Facts

The connection between heart disease, high blood pressure and nutrition is well known. That means there is a lot that individuals can do to reduce their risks for heart problems. Experts have found that increasing consumption of antioxidants and high fiber foods, and lowering fat intake is beneficial. That's why we've added traditional Irish oatmeal to our Healthy Heart Basket. We know that studies show oatmeal can lower cholesterol. And another study showed that men who ate a diet with high-fiber foods like oatmeal reduced their risk of dying from a heart attack by almost one-third.

Our Healthy Heart Basket also includes decaffeinated tea. Researchers have found that the antioxidants and plant chemicals (phytochemicals) in tea can reduce the risk of heart disease and some cancers. Tea also may help protect individuals who have had heart attacks. In one study, tea drinkers (2 or more cups daily) had a 44% lower death rate following a heart attack, compared with nontea-drinkers.

And we've also added dried blueberries. Scientists at Tufts University ranked blueberries number one in healthy antioxidants, compared with 40 other fruits and vegetables. Plus we include smoked salmon, which is full of heart healthy omega-3 fatty acids. Other goodies include a tasty soy snack and healthy nut-containing nut snack mixes.

Finally, you should know that researchers have found that the body's cardiovascular (heart/lung) system benefits from social connections. That means the very act of sending a healthy heart basket can help promote wellness.
